Module 7: Reframing

Turn Problems into Opportunities - Change Your Perspective!

🎯 What You Will Learn

📖 The Famous Glass Story

Two people look at the same glass of water:

Person 1 (Negative Frame): "The glass is half empty! We don't have enough water! This is a problem!"

Feeling: Worried, stressed, negative

Person 2 (Positive Frame): "The glass is half full! We still have water! We can use it wisely!"

Feeling: Grateful, optimistic, solution-focused

Same glass. Same amount of water. Two completely different experiences!

This is REFRAMING - changing how you look at a situation!

🖼️ What is Reframing?

Simple Definition: Reframing is looking at the same situation from a different angle or perspective. It's like changing the frame around a picture - the picture stays same, but it looks different!

🎨 The Picture Frame Metaphor

Imagine a photo of a tree:

  • In a dark black frame → The tree looks sad and gloomy
  • In a bright golden frame → The same tree looks beautiful and inspiring!

Same tree. Different frame. Different feeling!

In NLP, we change the "mental frame" around events in our life!

🏢 Rajesh's Job Loss Story

Rajesh worked in a Pune IT company for 8 years. One day, his company closed down. He lost his job.

❌ Before Learning Reframing:

"My life is ruined! I'm 35 years old! Who will hire me now? I have a family to support! This is terrible! I'm a failure!"

Result: Depression, no energy to search for jobs, family tensions

✓ After Learning Reframing:

"This is a chance for a fresh start! I can now join a better company! I have 8 years of valuable experience! I can negotiate a better salary! This is an opportunity to grow!"

Result: Started job search with confidence, attended interviews positively

What Happened: Rajesh got a better job in just 45 days! Salary increased by 40%! New company, new opportunities!

Same situation. Different frame. Completely different outcome!

🔄 Two Types of Reframing

1️⃣ Context Reframing

Question: "Where else could this be useful?"

Change the context where the behavior happens

2️⃣ Content Reframing

Question: "What else could this mean?"

Change the meaning you give to the situation

🎯 Context Reframing Examples

Statement: "I'm too talkative. I talk too much in meetings."

Reframe: "Being talkative is great for sales, customer service, and training roles! You can engage people easily!"

Statement: "I'm too perfectionist. I spend too much time on details."

Reframe: "Perfectionism is valuable in quality control, auditing, and important projects where accuracy matters!"

Statement: "I'm too quiet. I don't speak much."

Reframe: "Being quiet means you're a great listener! Perfect for counseling, HR, and understanding client needs!"

🎯 Content Reframing Examples

Statement: "My project got delayed. This is bad."

Reframe: "This delay gives us time to improve quality and avoid future problems!"

Statement: "My boss rejected my idea. I'm not good enough."

Reframe: "Boss's feedback helps me understand what he values. I can improve and present better next time!"

Statement: "I failed the interview. I'm a failure."

Reframe: "This was practice! I learned what interviewers ask. Next interview will be even better!"

💼 Workplace Reframing Scenarios

Scenario 1: Difficult Team Member

Negative Frame: "Rahul always argues with my ideas. He's so difficult!"

Reframe: "Rahul asks tough questions that help me think deeper. He helps me strengthen my ideas!"

Scenario 2: Tight Deadline

Negative Frame: "This deadline is impossible! Too much stress!"

Reframe: "This deadline shows client trusts us for urgent work. It's a chance to prove our speed!"

Scenario 3: Office Politics

Negative Frame: "There's so much office politics. I hate this!"

Reframe: "Understanding office dynamics helps me navigate better and build strategic relationships!"
